Kelly Suellentrop is an author and an illustrator, which are the two exact things she always wanted to be when she grew up. But she also would not mind being a professional roller coaster rider, a tour guide at Graceland, or the drummer in a band…if only she knew how to play the drums. She taught high school English for several years before becoming a mother, after which time she quit her job to begin the journey of learning how to change diapers, deal with tantrums, cut crusts off of bread, heal tiny broken hearts, drive a minivan, film piano recitals, sit through grade school baseball games…and finally follow her dream.
Though she lists among her talents a knack for redecorating rooms which are already sufficiently decorated and being exceptionally good at “Saved By The Bell” trivia , she will admit that writing is probably one of her strongest suits. She started a blog in 2011 called Are You Finished Yet?, which has been named a WordPress Recommended Family Blog. She has also been featured elsewhere on the internet, including the Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, BlogHer, and in e-guides sponsored by the website, Parent-Tested Parent-Approved.
Package those writing skills with a life-long love of drawing and real-life inspiration as a mother, and children’s literature seemed to be the perfect outlet for Kelly. She was also once hit on by Chuck E. Cheese…so if that doesn’t qualify her to write children’s books, nothing does.
But still feel free to ask her what song A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano were singing at the costume ball when Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski broke up. Because she will know the answer.
Kelly lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her incredibly dashing and debonaire husband, Kurtis, and their two funny and lovable children, Grace and Michael…who may or may not bear a resemblance to her characters, Lulu and Milo.
…Oh, and the answer is “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You?” That’s the song Slater and Jessie sang. You know you were just going to Google it.
